The wiki runs on [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki MediaWiki], the same wiki software that powers Wikipedia and probably every other wiki you've come across on the internet. As a result, '''countless other people have written guides far better than we could ever hope to write about how to contribute to the wiki'''. So, no point in reinventing the wheel with this one.

Please try to keep in mind the specifics of how contribution will work here. None of the policies of Wikipedia or any other wiki applies here, we have our own policy articles. We are [[EM:Biased point of view|not written from a neutral point of view]], referencing guidelines are fairly relaxed and humour is encouraged in articles wherever possible for entertainment value to the reader. But as for syntax and the technicalities of editing, you can't get much better than what's already written.

Remember that if you're using templates such as <nowiki>{{templatenamehere}}</nowiki>, a lot of them will not work unless the template has been copied over to here in the Template namespace. Bear that in mind if something doesn't work properly :)

:::Vector on a traditional desktop is certainly the best for editing. But most people are readers, not editors... and they're usually on a mobile device. Vector is quite unappealing on mobile devices. Always needing to zoom in and out to read text and tap links. I'd guess that seeing a desktop-only website is more likely to cause people to gag than seeing Vector on desktop and Minerva on mobile (Wikipedia's setup). Regardless of what the default is, users can always select Vector at [[Special:Preferences]] or with "Desktop view" at the bottom of the page.

::::I think Vector is a familiar Wiki layout to most people who read Wikipedia. Using it creates a degree of confidence and familiarity for new readers who don't have to relearn the layout of the website. [[mw:Extension:MobileFrontend]] will be installed, negating the issues somewhat for mobile users. I'm open to different skins and extensions for mobile users, definitely, will look into what can be done for mobile. Mobile optimisation is super important for SEO from what I can tell. I'd prefer to keep desktop defaulting to Vector. The Vector skin will be customised and tweaked to be more of a slice of EM, with a yellowish colour scheme instead of the default. :I'm not sure if you have access to the thread on the forum where I discuss the backend and configuration a little more. I'm currently waiting to get backend access to configure the MediaWiki install - the wiki is hosted on Jake's file server and I don't have FTP access at the moment. As you can imagine, there are plenty of extensions and configurations I'd like to do, and Cite will definitely be added.
