I created a forum account yesterday, and it was banned for no reason, before I even had a chance to set up a profile picture.
Anyway, on my user page, I wrote an introduction that I would have posted, which provides my insights about blur adaptation.

Animated gifs trigger epileptic reactions and migraines in some people.
I am prone to migraines and have a strong response to that sort of visual thing myself. I did a study where they tested my pain response and I did better than most people.  Then they flashed lights at me, and I did worse than most people (asked them to stop the flashing lights a LOT sooner) and got a bad migraine.  And I have it easy!
Alt text won't fix this. Alt text is useful if you need a screen reader.
Maybe we can work together to find static gifs to replace them?  I would have done so myself, but I don't have the wiki skillz.  Thanks, [[User:Angel|Angel]] ([[User talk:Angel|talk]]) 23:25, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
P.S. The standardized ways of still having animated gifs  are to have an "off" option or to have gifs that stop being animated after no more than 5 seconds.

:{{re|Angel}} You removed a gif of a man shaking his head and a SpongeBob character slowly coming out of a door. I don't see how images such as those could cause severe migraines as you've said - if they do you should be configuring your web browser to suit your needs imo. I can kind of see where you were coming from with the fireworks on the points mean prizes page.
:I think the wiki is good with colourful variety that does not cause issues for the overwhelming majority of readers. I just agreed to the terms of use over in the discord, and the last rule was about creating a welcoming space.  That's my area of expertise, creating spaces that are welcoming for everyone. I do this professionally.  This is about creating a welcoming space for the most vulnerable wiki users.
I see where you're coming from, been there.  But what about people who use library computers, shared computers, or other public computers?  What about people who don't know how to use computers?  What about people who don't know what gives them migraines or seizures?
It doesn't hurt the existing wiki users to use images that don't give people seizures.  But it might give someone a seizure if we leave them there.  Like, that's fine when we don't know better.  But once we know better, we have a responsibility to do better.
Just like I don't want my optometrist to give me a prescription that's going to make my eyes worse, I don't want be responsible for maybe giving people a seizure.

EndMyopia Wiki: Launched!

Thanks to everyone who has done a terrific job on getting the wiki up to scratch. Definitely a team effort, and I think it's paid off quite nicely. Always more to be done, but the basics look pretty taken care of. Wiki's looking good. We're on the front page of the main site, it's been promoted in Facebook and there should be a video coming out at some point.

Admin specific: the next two to four weeks will be a good barometer of how much vandalism can be expected over time, and whether things need to be changed or not. I'm heavily in favour of keeping it 'create an account, make an edit', but if need be there can be additional restrictions.

Try to check in on Special:RecentChanges every once in a while to see if anything unsavoury is happening. I might be overestimating the amount of vandalism we'll get, we must wait and see. Don't be afraid to block users if necessary.

Cheers! -NottNott (talk) 08:53, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Help:Pictures

Suggest you make $wgAllowExternalImages false. Image hosts can and not infrequently do, convert all linked images to ads, porn or worse. It's only one line of config code for a host to replace all incoming links with a different image. Viceroy Sam (talk) 09:57, 24 June 2020 (UTC)
