Learned Helplessness

Jump to navigation Jump to search

In psychology, learned helplessness is when a lack of ability to change circumstances leads to no longer trying to change circumstances. Even when circumstances change, you may still suffer as though circumstances have not changed because you no longer believe things can get better and you make no effort to change with the circumstances. Usually this refers to learning helplessness by experience, but in the case of optometry, helplessness is taught to us by the professionals who say there is nothing that can be done besides wearing stronger Glasses. Glasses tend to induce helplessness in people, it's this mentality that their eyes cannot improve.
