Retinal Detachment is the Retina coming loose from the underlying tissue. The Retina supports the cells that are the actual light detectors of the eye, if part of the retina dies you can have a dark spot in your vision. If the retina wrinkles, you can have distortions in your vision. If you see flashes of light, or dark spots, this is a Medical Emergency. Call your eye doctor immediately, and if you can't reach him go to urgent care or an emergency room. If you have retinal detachment you need immediate surgery to try to save the retina and prevent blindness.
