Stealing is more fun!

I think using policies sounds less exciting, can we steal them instead? I see where you're going on the professional front though Face-wink.svg -NottNott (talk) 20:54, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

I dont think inviting legal issues is wise. Jake doesn't have a lawyer on the books. Viceroy Sam (talk) 21:00, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
You are aware Wikipedia and all its contents are licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0? Link. The heading at the top is definitely attribution. -NottNott (talk) 21:07, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
I'm well aware of that. Viceroy Sam (talk) 21:15, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
So how are there legal issues? -NottNott (talk) 21:16, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
It encourages mud sligging or smear campaign. Viceroy Sam (talk) 21:59, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
I think the entire blog and Jake's whole sense of humour is bad enough in that department as it is, a little more won't hurt Face-wink.svg -NottNott (talk) 23:18, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Categorising images

So you think it's a good idea as well to categorise things that don't seem to need categorising at first too? I'm still slightly lost on it, I must admit.

Do you think it will be easier if we just include the category onto the 'license' templates, so it transcludes across all of the images (instead of manual edits) -NottNott (talk) 13:20, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

@NottNott: I'd prefer if nothing is categorised really, but with images some of them got categorised already due to categories in some imported templates creating red links, that Heddy made into blue. So I've added categories to other templates so that categorisation isn't done on each individual file.
Would it be be easier if we just include the category onto the 'license' templates? Yes, categories in templates seem better then adding a category to me. Viceroy Sam (talk) 13:30, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Warning and risk templates

Do you think it's better if we just import these from Wikipedia? -NottNott (talk) 12:10, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Introducing your two new best friends: the export page from Wikipedia and the import page for this wiki. -NottNott (talk) 12:14, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

WP and Wikipedia prefixes are now aliases for EM

It's a hardcoded namespace alias now, so WP:IAR or Wikipedia:IAR will link to the EM namespace now.

You can remove all redirects you've set-up with WP (if you like) Face-wink.svg -NottNott (talk) 22:45, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

@NottNott:Great idea, I love it! Viceroy Sam (talk) 22:46, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
@NottNott: Some issue perhaps? Many pages are going red. WP:STUFF Viceroy Sam (talk) 22:51, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Yeah, that'll be the alias. What did you need those pages for btw?
(Aliases are good for being lazy too. qwer:Box works for Template, asdf:Sitenotice for MediaWiki, zxcv:SomeModule for Module.) -NottNott (talk) 22:55, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
@NottNott: So links could be converted but how do you link to an actual Wikipedia page now? Wikipedia:Main Page doesn't work. Viceroy Sam (talk) 23:10, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Good point, well made. I've deleted the aliases, seems like it'll just cause loads of headaches. -NottNott (talk) 23:12, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
@NottNott:I didn't realise until this happened that {{EMpolicy}} {{EM guideline}} etc link to Wikipedia in the right hand shortcut. Viceroy Sam (talk) 23:16, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Yeah....... probably would be an absolute nightmare. Let's not :D -NottNott (talk) 23:18, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
@NottNott:I'm up for a challenge if we could split Wikipedia: and WP: apart. Viceroy Sam (talk) 23:28, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
I think enabling Wikipedia as an alias will be a super headache. I can reenable WP if you like -NottNott (talk) 23:36, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
If you are saying WP goes to EM and Wikipedia goes to Wikipedia then yes. Viceroy Sam (talk) 23:37, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Main page template

Is looking GOOD!

One thing I'd say is background colour is important, maybe clear or a lighter shade of blue for content boxes, and clear where currently there's a deeper blue is a good idea.

Also, my video is alright but not sure it's good enough for the main page. -NottNott (talk) 15:00, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

@NottNott: Agreed, especial about colours (dark theme wiki? - yes, come on!!), but can change later. Viceroy Sam (talk) 15:02, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
Can look into adding some kind of extension or script thing that allows you to toggle dark and light theme at will, for all visitors (not just signed in wiki editors). From there, there's probably some really cool configuring that can be done to the main page template to change its colours based on that setting. -NottNott (talk) 15:04, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Realising MediaWiki:Bottom-notice-ns-XXX is not working

Got it! Was looking for a shortcut to categorising troubles. -NottNott (talk) 14:54, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Making the wiki mobile friendly

(imagine if we implemented structured talk pages... no embedded videos, that's a travesty.)

Check out EndMyopia:Make it mobile friendly. New extension, new tags to play around with. You just disable the desktop version of the site and enable a mobile version of the site with tags. Because all the actual content is on separate pages, this works flawlessly.

Most impressed with the editing navbox (if I do say so myself). Check this diff out. Use mw:Extension:Labeled Section Transclusion to create Template:Editing navbox/Links which holds all the actual links. Then just link to that page for mobile users. I'll probably do Labeled Section Transclusion with the main page now, especially because 'Left2' means a lot less than 'Joke section'. Try the main page on mobile, works well!

(wikis are so much fun)

I'm done with Dark Mode fiddling, I think this is as good as I can be bothered to make it. Nightpedia is a lost cause.

Also, enabled external links to other sites. Need to tell people this is only for talk pages and non-content things. See an example in this talk message. -NottNott (talk) 12:25, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

EndMyopia Wiki: Launched!

Thanks to everyone who has done a terrific job on getting the wiki up to scratch. Definitely a team effort, and I think it's paid off quite nicely. Always more to be done, but the basics look pretty taken care of. Wiki's looking good. We're on the front page of the main site, it's been promoted in Facebook and there should be a video coming out at some point.

Admin specific: the next two to four weeks will be a good barometer of how much vandalism can be expected over time, and whether things need to be changed or not. I'm heavily in favour of keeping it 'create an account, make an edit', but if need be there can be additional restrictions.

Try to check in on Special:RecentChanges every once in a while to see if anything unsavoury is happening. I might be overestimating the amount of vandalism we'll get, we must wait and see. Don't be afraid to block users if necessary.

Cheers! -NottNott (talk) 08:53, 20 June 2020 (UTC)
